Arcadia Comes Back Against Azusa

Duane Barker

The Arcadia Apaches scored their lone touchdown late in the third quarter and then held on to beat the visiting Azusa Aztecs 8-7 Friday night at Salter Stadium.
The defenses kept the teams scoreless in the first half with only the Aztecs coming close to scoring when Vladimir Santiago’s 34-yard field goal attempt just missed getting through the uprights.
Azusa finally got on the board with 7:58 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Angel Flores.
Arcadia came back on the ensuing drive. Marching 61-yards to paydirt on seven plays, Josh Yee crashed in from 3-yards to make it 7-6. The Apaches made it 8-7 when Nico Hillier found Steven Luong in the flat to complete the two point conversion.
The Aztecs had one last glimmer of hope pouncing on a Josh Benson fumble at the Arcadia 45 but on the very next play from scrimmage Azusa quarterback Jose Ledesma was picked off by Nico Cantos to seal the victory.
Yee led Arcadia with 45-yards on eight carries. Quarterback Joey Harmon hit on nine of 19 passes for 128-yards. Joe Haines hauled in five for 88-yards.
