South El Monte Slammed by Montebello

Isaac Mendibles ran for 221 yards and four touchdowns as Montebello rolled to a 57-21 rout of South El Monte Friday night. Montebello ended it early leading 22-0 at the end of one and 50-0 at halftime.

In the second half the Oilers called off the dogs playing mostly their twos and threes and South El Monte finally made some noise. Marcos Lopez scored three times in the second half for the Eagles to account for the final score.

***Montebello scored on the first play from scrimmage when Carlos Chin hit a wide open Edgar Gonzalez on an 80 yard pass play off of a flea flicker.

***Montebello employed a two quarterback system throughout the night. Carlos China threw for 109 yards and a touchdown and Angel Hernandez passed for 45 yards and a score.

***South El Monte finally got on the board early in the third quarter on a 25 yard run by Lopez. Lopez scored all of the Eagles touchdowns and rushed for 149 yards on 25 carries.

***Mario Burciaga replaced Jaime Michel at quarterrback for the Eagles in the second quarter.

***South El Monte missed field goals on each of its first two possessions.

***The Eagles are now 1-1, The Oilers improved to 1-2.
