Monrovia (9-2) began their quest for a third consecutive CIF Southern Section Mid-Valley Division crown with a convincing 50-0 shutout over Viewpoint Friday night at the Monrovia Sports Complex to advance to the Mid-Valley division quarterfinals.

Wilcats quarterback Blake Heyworth missed only three of his 12 pass attempts en route to 149 yards in the air and four touchdowns. Heyworth’s arm opened and closed the scoring for the Wildcats, both times hitting Anthony Craft for the scores. Craft hauled in an 11-yard toss just three minutes into the first quarter and a 21-yard grab with 4:40 left in the third. In between Heyworth’s two hits to Craft, he also connected with Crayvon Gillespie for an eight-yard score just two minutes after Craft’s first touchdown, giving the Wildcats a 13-0 lead which held up to the end of the quarter.

Rusher Darione Jones scored twice in the second quarter, first on a 21-yard run then later in the period on a 13-yard run. The Patriots gave up a safety when Mason Bryant blocked s punt attempt by the Patriots, which rolled out of the end zone for the two points. The subsequent Free kick set up Ge Vontray Ainsworth one-yard score. Ainsworth would score once more this time in the third quarter, on a 29-yard pass from Heyworth to put the Wildcats up 43-0.

The Wildcats will return to the Sports Complex on Friday to host the South El Monte Eagles in the quarterfinals. The Southmen advanced with a 31-24 win over the Covina Colts Friday night at the Swamp.
