South El Monte (5-4) at El Monte (7-2)
Bragging rights, the Griffin Bowl, the Mission Valley League title, and, of course, the Fate of the World is on the line between these teams. The Eagles defense is pretty good, but can’t it be good a 100 percent of the time? The Lions don’t engineer drives, they score touchdowns and they score them real blanking fast. That’s pressure on the defense, and enormous pressure on the SEM offense. If El Monte runs 60 to 70 plays on offense, they only need five to work because you can be sure those that worked were all touchdowns.
Prediction: El Monte 36 South El Monte 21
Rosemead (3-6) at Mountain View (3-6)
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen goodbye
Prediction: Rosemead 21 Mt. View 14
Friday, November 2
Temple City (5-4) at Monrovia (7-2)
The Wildcats stretch their legs and fine tune things before going on title chase.
Prediction: Monrovia 42 Temple City 7
San Gabriel (1-8) vs Alhambra (4-5) at Moor Field
Jude Oliva’s biography will record this as “A Season in Hell”…but the Matadors will find redemption in overturning the Moors salvaging effort.
Prediction: San Gabriel 30 Alhambra 17
Arroyo (5-4) at Gabrielino (7-2)
This one counts. Can Elijah Peters and his receivers expose the Knights secondary? Can Peter Aholoka find running room through the Eagles front wall? Gabrielino has not defeated Arroyo since 2001, and have never defeated them on its current home field. The Knights, one more time, have not missed the playoffs since 1983.
Prediction: Arroyo 23 Gabrielino 21
Azusa (5-4) vs Sierra Vista (6-3) at Citrus College
All the Dons have done this year is surprise at every turn. Same with the Aztecs. Go SV.
Prediction: Sierra Vista 28 Azusa 21
Bassett (3-6) at Duarte (4-5)
The Falcons are wounded souls…The loss to La Puente cut a hole inside of them that was still bleeding in last week’s loss. The Olympians are playing to show the valley that they will be a Montview force.
Prediction: Bassett 36 Duarte 27
Workman (2-7) at La Puente (7-2)
Warriors will lower the ka-boom on the Lobos.
Prediction: La Puente 45 Workman 12
Crescenta Valley (4-5) at Arcadia (4-5)
This looks likean evening with an insurance salesman.
Prediction: Arcadia 17 Crescenta Valley 10
Bosco Tech (1-7) at La Salle (9-0)
The Lancers will be the equivalent of a “Frankenstorm” on the Tigers.
Prediction: La Salle 52 Bosco Tech 0
Baldwin Park (1-9): Season over.
