Alhambra, CA – The Moors capitalized on three Ram turnovers, with Sebastian Espinosa returning a fumble 46-yards for a touchdown to lead Alhambra to 23-0 victory Friday night.
The turnover, came when Temple City quarterback Anthony Valencia was unable to connect with his running back on a lateral. Espinosa scooped up the ball and ran it in to give his team 13-0 lead late in the third quarter.
“We told them all week ‘if we prepare we’re going to come out and win’,” said Alhambra Head Coach Joe Kanach of his team mentality. “We really focused in on what we wanted to do”.
Early in the game, both teams were unable to get any momentum started and traded punts. Midway through the first quarter, the Moors were able to capitalize on a Ram facemask penalty that got their special teams close enough to score its first points. Jessie Campos made the 32-yard field goal.
Campos again was able to kick the ball through the up rights, this time from 23-yards out, sending his team up 6-0 at half.
Late in third quarter, after the big Moor touchdown return, TC found themselves rallying back when Nick Kaneko ran back an 85-yard kick return to the Alhambra nine yard line. Now in the redzone, the Rams were unable to take advantage of the great field potion. Chris Reed was stuffed at the goaline on a Temple City fourth down attempt. TC would not get a better opportunity to score.
The Moors scored two more times with Campos making a third field goal and quarterback Armando Amaya connecting with Oscar Gaytan for ten-yard pass.
