Don’t Shop – Adopt!

As we approach the holiday season, many of us consider getting a new dog or cat to become part of the family.  Just remember: animal rescue organizations and shelters have dogs and cats available for adoption in every breed, size, age, gender, and color.  Shelters are euthanizing dozens of adoptable animals daily, many of whom are purebred.  It is not necessary to purchase an animal from a backyard breeder or a pet store that promotes puppy mills to find just the right addition to your home.

A good place to start is your local animal shelter and humane society websites, as well as petfinder.com.  Many shelters offer discounts to seniors who adopt senior animals.  Your adoption fee will help ensure that overburdened animal shelters and rescue groups can keep up their good work.

So please, during this season where the values of love, appreciation and giving are celebrated, give love and appreciation to a rescue or shelter animal in need.  You can both save a life and give a forever home to a new grateful friend.
