El Monte City Council Makes Supporting Business Community a Priority

The El Monte City Council recognizes that more must be done to attract and retain quality retail shops, restaurants and services. Building a business-friendly environment begins with the local government, and City officials have made this a top priority in the coming year.
Recognizing that quality businesses are crucial to the health and prosperity of a community, the City has rolled out a new initiative called the Business Advisory Council (BAC) to support efforts to strengthen the local business community.
“We need to develop closer partnerships with our local entrepreneurs to make El Monte a vibrant destination for the private sector to create and grow a thriving business,” said Mayor Pro Tem Bart Patel, who serves as Chair of the Business Advisory Council.
The BAC will be comprised of local business owners, residents, City officials, real estate experts, prospective/potential business owners, the El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce and others committed to helping transform El Monte into a flourishing economic center.
“We think it is crucial for business leaders to be at the table when we are making policy decisions that impact their industry,” said Councilwoman Norma Macias, Vice-Chair of the BAC. “The BAC will serve as that forum so we can hear from these important stakeholders.”
The Council recently kicked off the BAC with a luncheon where business members could meet City executives, tour City Hall and provide feedback on what improvements can be made within the City to help facilitate business development. The input received from the business owners who attended will be considered in improving city processes in the future.
