Rosemead Schools prominent in 2014 County Science Olympiad
Muscatel Intermediate School’s Science Olympiad team won (for the tenth consecutive time) the Los Angeles County intermediate school division of the Science Olympiad competition in the Science Olympiad held today at Occidental college. Rosemead High School placed third in the high school division. Both will now advance to the State finals later this spring, according to RKC Reporter correspondent and Kiwanian Carol Mahoney.
This year marked the first time Rosemead School District elementary schools participants in the Olympiad’s elementary school division. Scoring in this division is different, with medals being awarded to all schools achieving a certain aggregate point level. All four RSD schools (Encinita, Jansen, Savannah and Shuey) qualified for silver medals. The only participating Garvey District elementary school, Hillcrest, won a gold.
Also participating from Rosemead were teams from Garvey and Temple Intermediate Schools. Garvey came in 16th and garnered two event medals; Temple ranked 26th. Programs at both schools started only a few years ago and are developing.
