Joseph J. Gonzales, Councilman re-election
Councilman Joseph J. Gonzales has resided in South El Monte his entire life. Councilman Gonzales attended local schools graduating from Don Bosco Tech High School and College. After graduating from Don Bosco Tech, Joseph attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Graphic Communications/Management. Councilman Gonzales is a licensed Real Estate Agent.
Councilman Gonzales represents the City of South El Monte on various regional and state boards working on economic development, housing, transportation and state legislation. Councilman Gonzales is one of a few elected representatives in San Gabriel Valley awarded the Silver Certificate in Executive Leadership from the National League of Cities. Councilman Gonzales recently was elected to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments as the 2nd Vice President. He also sits on the COG’s Housing and Transportation Committee.
Councilman Gonzales supports a strong law enforcement budget which has resulted in record low crime rates. Councilman Gonzales advocates for financial stability and this has increased city reserve funds, including balanced budgets for the past five years. Since 2007, Councilman Gonzales has been the Chairman of the SR60 Coalition consisting of six cities: Montebello, Industry, Monterey Park, Rosemead, El Monte and South El Monte. The SR 60 Coalition is advocating for the METRO Eastside Goldline light rail train to extend into San Gabriel Valley with stations in Montebello and South El Monte. Councilman Gonzales realizes the economic development and construction jobs this project will bring to our communities.
