Laura Santos Mt SAC, District 3
Laura Santos, a local school board member with more than 10 years of education policy making experience, is uniquely qualified for Mt San Antonio College District 3 Trustee seat. Her family has lived, worked, and enjoyed District 3 since 1964. She attended local schools; graduated from UCLA and UC Davis law school. She was elected to Bassett USD school board in 2007, earned a Masters in Governance Certificate in 2010, and was re-elected in 2011. She also sits on La Puente Valley ROP board and has enjoyed collaboration with Mt SAC.
She is Secretary/Treasurer for Los Angeles County School Trustee Association (LACSTA) and the Education Committee Chair for SGV Civic Alliance. She sits on LACSTA Community College Committee with other community colleges trustees. Laura has also served in other non-profit organizations including California State PTA, CHIRLA Educators for Immigrant Rights, and local Chambers of Commerce.
In addition to inadequate funding, community colleges face many challenges. Laura’s priorities are greater collaboration with local school districts and others to do more with less in our financially challenging times; creating seamless pathways between high school, community college, and university; increased workforce development opportunities to fulfill individuals’ careers goals and California’s unmet workforce needs.
Laura is running because she believes community college is critically important for students transferring to a university, for workforce development, and for job retraining. Laura will represent and provide a voice for the District 3, a unique community of interest that has not had representation on the Mt SAC board.
