I am a bilingual and bicultural child of the Southwest, born in Arizona to parents from New Mexico and Mexico, and raised in southern California. I received my BA in English and Ethnic Studies from USC and my MA in English from UCLA (indicative of my ability to be open-minded, tolerant and inclusive). I have lived in the Whittier/El Monte area nearly all of my adult life.
I am uniquely qualified to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. I was a professor and campus leader at the college for 38 years. I understand that Rio Hondo is more than the buildings or grounds; it is the people who make it a successful college. I know the college—its budget, policies, and procedures. I understand our students, their families and their communities. I have the experience, knowledge, and understanding to move the college forward into the twenty-first century.
I am a doer and worker, but always a listener first. I am a problem-solver and bridge-builder. I am passionate about our students’ access to quality education and their success. Now more than ever, the skills, training, and knowledge that students gain at Rio Hondo are important, not only to their futures but also to ours. I want to build a better future for our students, providing a solid foundation for whatever they need to compete in the global marketplace through hands-on experience and cutting-edge technology.
