Jennifer Cobian, El Monte City School District Governing Board Candidate

My name is Jennifer Cobian and I am running for El Monte City School District Governing Board because I have the background and experience to make a positive difference for our children.

I am a part of a family that has been in El Monte for more than 35 years and that has been involved with education and education policies for more than 40 years. I am a mother of four and my children attend Rio Hondo School here in EMCSD. I have a deep respect for our community and a personal commitment to the quality of our schools.

Before becoming a full-time parent, I was a teacher in the El Monte City School District. Prior to teaching, I was a speechwriter for the Governor of California and I had an internship at the White House. I understand the politics that are sometimes necessary to provide the best for our students.

I have a BA from UC Santa Cruz, an MA from the University of Chicago and a teaching credential from CSU Los Angeles. I am currently a volunteer soccer coach for AYSO.

With the new state funding and the implementation of the Common Core Standards there is an opportunity to shape the direction of our schools for years to come.  If elected I plan to be a liaison between the school administration, teachers, staff, parents and community. I will make sure our schools are safe, and have the technology and resources to prepare our children for the 21st century.
