El Monte -

The California Retired Teachers’ Association #71 (CalRTA-SGV) awarded its final classroom grants for the year to Aileen Lopez and Melody Martinez, El Monte H. S. math teachers in the El Monte Union High School District.   Principal Keith Richardson welcomed the CalRTA #71 School Grant Committee to the campus.

Patti Hahn, CalRTA #71 School Grant Chair, awarded grants to the two math teachers who had made requests to purchase incentives, such as In-N-Out Burger coupons, for their  “Mathematician of the Month Awards” program.  The Grant Committee was able to procure a generous donation of 30 coupons from In-N-Out for the teachers’ classes to include with the classroom grants the committee gave to the teachers for purchasing additional gift cards for future rewards.   Both young women expressed their gratitude for the school grants.

This is the tenth year that CalRTA #71 has awarded grants to help teachers fulfill their classroom needs.  The grant presentations also serve to acquaint future retirees with the organization. Membership in the California Retired Teachers’ Association is open to all retired educators as well as to any others interested in joining.  For membership information, please contact Marietta Watkins at (323) 258-9615 or Patricia Dietrich at (626) 446-8437.
