During the year, The El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce is out in the community and involved in many events. It is our way of giving back and reaching out to our cities and assisting in any way we can. One of the events that we are proud to be associated with and co-sponsor is the Back to School Resource Fair to be held on Saturday, August 24th from 8:00am – 2:00pm at the El Monte Valley Mall.
Operating on a first come-first serve basis for students attending El Monte Schools, it is anticipated that this year will offer over 1500 children school supplies, socks, shoes and other needed items. The festivities also includes a Healthy Family Expo, free haircuts to the first 300 school age children, give-a way opportunities to purchase school uniforms and a scavenger hunt on Valley Mall for more school supplies.
The idea for the Fair came from Councilwoman Victoria “Vicky” Martinez, who also serves as its Chairwoman. The event is 100% funded from hard-working volunteers and corporate donations. It is co-sponsored by the City of El Monte, Downtown El Monte Business Association, El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce, El Monte Kiwanis, El Monte Police Officers Association in partnership with the El Monte Union High School District and the El Monte City and Mountain View School Districts. This event truly demonstrates the commitment of the City of El Monte and our business community to be there for our kids.
