Each year, the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors proclaim the month of May as Older Americans Recognition Month. Each city in the County is asked to nominate one individual, age 60 or over, who has shown exceptional service as an outstanding example in his/her community. The Senior Presidents’ Council of the City of El Monte, Community & Senior Services Division have chosen Armando Hernandez as the ‘2013 Senior of the Year’ for his active and committed community involvement in El Monte.
Mr. Armando Hernandez was born on February 6, 1939, and is a resident of El Monte. Armando served in the United Sates Army and in the Korean War. He is a loving father of three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Armando enjoys spending time watching western movies and enjoying a glass of Kool-Aid when he is not volunteering his time at the El Monte Jack Crippen Senior Center.
As an important member of the Jack Crippen Senior Center, Armando has been volunteering for the center for more than three years. He joined the Durazo Club and as the current Vice President, is very essential in organizing events, dances, and fundraisers. He is always willing to lend a helping hand and arrives bright and early every day of the week to sell coffee and set up for senior nutrition, as well as serving our seniors. Mr. Hernandez does a wonderful job helping his fellow citizens whole-heartedly. We are proud to nominate Armando as the 2013 recipient of the Senior of the Year award for the City of El Monte.
The Senior Presidents’ Council of the City of El Monte, Community & Senior Services Division have chosen Armando Hernandez as the ‘2013 Senior of the Year’, for his active community involvement and selfless dedication that have touched countless lives.
A special ceremony given by the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging honored Mr. Hernandez, along with other Senior of the Year nominees from cities throughout Los Angeles County (Supervisorial Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4), on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. The Senior Presidents’ Council and City of El Monte Community & Senior Services Division will also honor Mr. Hernandez with a special luncheon, to be held at the Jack Crippen Senior Center, 3120 N.
