El Monte –
Two appreciative Potrero School teachers in the El Monte City School District recently received classroom grants from the California Retired Teachers’ Association #71 (CalRTA-SGV). Principal Liz Raymond was present at the faculty meeting to welcome the CalRTA #71 School Grant Committee to the campus.
Patti Hahn, CalRTA #71 School Grant Chair, awarded grants to two Potrero teachers who had requested donations to purchase classroom materials and equipment for their students’ use. Second-grade teacher Yelitza Day had requested a donation for a Vietnamese Rosetta Stone program, English levels one and two, to meet her students’ needs. Rene Siegel, sixth-grade teacher, had asked for funds to help her purchase a wireless printer for the computer lab. Both young women expressed their gratitude for the school grants.
This is the tenth year that CalRTA #71 has awarded grants to help teachers fulfill their classroom needs. The grant presentations also serve to acquaint future retirees with the organization. Membership in the California Retired Teachers’ Association is open to all retired educators as well as to any others interested in joining. For membership information, please contact Marietta Watkins at (323) 258-9615 or Patricia Dietrich at (626) 446-8437.
