Families Get Fit at the 2013 Run, Ride and Walk Event
More than 90 residents took advantage of the sunny Spring weather to join the City of El Monte at the 2013 Family Fit Run, Ride and Walk event on Saturday, May 11.
The event, hosted by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department in partnership with Bike SGV, was designed to encourage families to get active together at El Monte’s Pioneer Park. The family friendly, non-competitive event was open to all ages and fitness levels.
“The City of El Monte makes it a priority to offer activities like the Run, Ride and Walk event that promote a healthy lifestyle for our families,” said El Monte Mayor Andre Quintero. “We consistently champion policies that improve the health and well-being of our residents, so that as a community, we can fight obesity and other health-related problems.”
Each participant chose to participate in a healthy activity, including a 5-mile run, a 14-mile local off-street bike ride (ages 8 and over), or a 2.5-mile walk. A bike rodeo for children under age 8 was hosted by the El Monte Police Officers’ Association.
The Run, Ride and Walk event was followed by a healthy lifestyles expo, lunch, and opportunity drawings.
