City of El Monte and Volunteers of America to host the 2013 El Monte Homeless Count
January 23, 2013 • 635 views
The City of El Monte is partnering with Volunteers of America to host the 2013 El Monte Homeless Count on Tuesday, January 29. The Homeless Count is an event where teams of volunteers go out into the streets of their community to conduct a count of both sheltered and unsheltered homeless people.
Since Los Angeles County’s homeless population is the highest in the nation, the 2013 Homeless Count is vital to acquire a reliable approximation of the homeless population in El Monte and the County of Los Angeles. This allows the County to raise public awareness of the problem of homelessness and accurately identify the needs of homeless populations, including housing. An accurate count also enables the County to demonstrate our region’s need for federal funding to prevent homelessness and provide services.
Volunteers are needed and can register online at www.theycountwillyou.org under the team name “City of El Monte”.
If you have any questions, please contact the City of El Monte Housing Division at (626) 580-2070.
