El Monte/South El Monte Meals on Wheels Annual Volunteer Recognition and Installation Dinner

El Monte, Ca —The El Monte/South El Monte Meals on Wheels held their Annual Volunteer Recognition and Installation Dinner last Wednesday night at the Royal Order of the Moose in El Monte. The well-attended event featured President Robert Wayne as Master of Ceremonies and the South El Monte Eagle High School Marching Band provided entertainment.
Founded in 1974 by Art Speer and Jack Crippen, the Meals on Wheels has survived all these years to provide needed meals to housebound seniors as the result of the dedication and hard work of its volunteers. “On behalf of the City of El Monte, we are proud of all of the volunteers who make this valuable organization a success”, stated Mayor Andre Quintero. Among the active volunteers is Councilwoman Norma Macias who commented, “what makes this program so rewarding it is not only getting the food to these people, but the heartfelt relationships that are established from meeting these residents in our community”.
The current Executive Board members that were installed by Ken Rausch, Executive Director of the El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce are:
Robert Wayne, President, Sue Olson, Vice President, Gladys Horn, Treasurer, Nancy Ford, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary/Historia, Joanne Wayne, Dispatcher, Betty Olson and Donna Crippen, Lillian Rey and Sue Olson, Co-Administrators. Also receiving the prestigious Opal Winstead Award was Dan Ayala for his many of volunteer work.
