El Monte, CA –The City of El Monte, together with a delegation from sister city Zamora, Mexico and Artist Rivera Novoa, unveiled a colorful mural in celebration of the City’s Centennial on Tuesday.

The mural depicts famous icons from the City of El Monte’s 100-year history, including Gay’s Lion Farm and El Monte Legion Stadium.  It also features picturesque landmarks from the City of Zamora set upon a backdrop of the Mexican flag.

“We are so grateful that the City of Zamora would share in the celebration of our Centennial by commissioning this beautiful mural,” said Mayor Andre Quintero.  “We appreciate the gift and more importantly the time we could spend with the Zamora delegation to strengthen our sister city relationship.”

Novoa, who was born in El Monte, took inspiration from the piece from stories he remembered from his grandfather.  The mural will be on permanent display at City Hall.
