El Monte, CA – As the result of the diligent work of the City of El Monte’s Economic Development Department, another valuable development is underway.  The $5.7 million Tyler Court development, located at 3348 Tyler Avenue, will house 20 affordable senior apartments in a three-story building.  The City held the official groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, November 1.  Funding for the project comes from several programs including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City’s own HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and the state program that provides state and federal tax credits for private investments.

“We are proud that we have been able to aggressively locate and secure funds that not only provide our seniors with affordable housing, but maintain fiscal solvency for our City as well,” said Councilmember Bart Patel. “We continue to ensure that despite the sluggish economy, we are responding to the needs of our residents while moving our City forward.”

“What made this process special was the input from the residents” said Councilmember Victoria Martinez.  “To have the residents engaged in this project is truly an example of the City’s commitment to clear communication with the community”.

Construction on this project is set to begin in the next few weeks with completion in the Summer of 2013.
