El Monte, CA – El Monte City School District Board of Education recently honored Columbia School’s record number of students who scored a perfect 600 on the California Standards Test (CST). The fifteen students honored were Niobe Bonilla, Megan Chao, Ashley Cobian Baca, Leticia Flores Navarro, Omar Gallardo Ventura, Jesse Garcia, Grencewincel Garing, Jesus Gomez, Antonio Hernandez, Claribel Le, Chistine Nguyen, Maya Padilla, Leyna Pham, Breanna Delgado and Bryan Wu.
In addition to celebrating the students, Columbia School is celebrating the fact they have reached their goal of no longer being a Program Improvement School. “This is a major accomplishment for the school,” said Dr. Maribel Garcia, principal of Columbia, “It has taken hard work for several years to achieve this.”
Columbia School’s API climbed to 840 this year. “Our goal is to continue to increase the number of students with perfect scores. We are continuing our upward trend,” remarked an enthusiastic Dr. Garcia. Columbia School has been designated a 10 by the California Department of Education’s similar schools ranking. This ranking takes into account schools with similar demographics and resources and ranks them from lowest (1) to highest (10).
Dr. Garcia added, “Our success is a reflection of the hard work of Columbia’s staff and the partnership we have forged with the community we serve.”
