Invisible Children Comes to SGMHS
A powerful assembly was held on October 24, 2012 in the auditorium at San Gabriel Mission High School. The organization called Invisible Children came to speak to the student body “to raise awareness of their campaign against Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army. Kony is the leader of an army that has waged a war of mutilation and murder across Uganda, the Congo and other regions of Africa. Invisible Children’s goal is to stop the war by catching Kony and putting him on trial for his actions.”
Speakers at the assembly included Austin, a representative from Invisible Children and Quinto, an escapee from the Lord’s Resistance Army. The video, Move was shown to the entire student body. Invisible Children has truly made an impact on all the students.
According to Teri Collier, Director of Campus Ministry, “Invisible Children has gotten the attention of lawmakers and politicians worldwide. There will be a summit of these world leaders held in Washington, DC on November 17, 2012 to discuss world issues including the conflict led by Kony.” And here at SGMHS, a group of students who would like to attend the summit, are scrambling to raise funds to participate in this worthwhile cause.
