South El Monte Mayor and City Council Bike Ride

Join the South El Monte Mayor and City Council for a fun bike ride event on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Bicyclists will meet at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall, 1415 Santa Anita Avenue and depart for an amusing scenic bike ride in South El Monte. This event is open to cyclists of all levels and ages. Participants are asked to bring their own bike and helmet, and to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Free light refreshments will be provided. The Mayor and City Council Bike Ride events are part of the City of South El Monte’s initiative to encourage biking activities, endorse bicycle safety, promote the health benefits of this great leisure activity and showcase South El Monte’s bike-friendly trails and areas.

Rishi Kumar is the founder of The Growing Home, a model of suburban sustainability in Diamond Bar.  Come join us and hear his humorous story on why he left his lucrative engineering career to grow his own food at home.  Learn what’s in the food we eat and the merits of organically grown food. For ages 12 and up. This is a free program at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 in the Claremont Library meeting room. Sponsored by The Friends of the Claremont Library. The Claremont Library is open Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 – 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 – 5 p.m., closed Mondays and is located at 208 N. As part of the ongoing celebration of its 50th Anniversary, Rio Hondo will host a multi-generational event with a special celebration for students, families, and the community. “Rio Fest” takes place Saturday, Oct. 20, from 3 to 9 p.m. on the College’s Soccer Field. Advance tickets for “Rio Fest” are $5 and available in Student Life & Leadership, Student Union Building (SU 202) or at Day of event tickets are $10; $5 for children 6-11. Children five and younger are free. Free parking available in Lots 1-6 and Lot C.


Harvest Festival

Monrovia Public Library Job & Career Center: Job Scout

The Monrovia Public Library is piloting a new job resource called Job Scout through October, 2013. Currently in beta testing, Job Scout is digital literacy tools that helps users gain the internet skills necessary to look for a job in today’s market. This resource was built in cooperation with the California State Library. Job Scout is currently available on the Library’s website ( under Education and Careers. Join the Arbor Day Foundation in October And Receive Five Free Crapemyrtle Trees. The Arbor Day Foundation will brighten up your fall by offering five free crapemyrtle trees when you join the Foundation in October. The free trees are part of the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation’s Trees for America campaign, a program dedicated to environmental stewardship through tree planting. New members of the Arbor Day Foundation also receive The Tree Book, which includes information about tree planting and care.
