American Red Cross Partners With Zombie Blood Run to Prepare San Gabriel Valley for Zombie Apocalypse

By Monica Diaz

The American Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley chapter is partnering with the Zombie Blood Run to prepare the San Gabriel Valley for a disaster, even a zombie apocalypse!

On Saturday, August 17 at Santa Anita Park (285 W. Huntington Dr. Arcadia, CA 91007) participants will navigate a non-stop, interactive 1.5 mile course to get prepared for a “real” zombie attack. Runners will traverse zombie-infested maze structures and zombie-themed, (fake) blood soaked physical obstacles- all while being chased by bloodthirsty zombies. Tickets are on sale now and a portion of each goes to the American Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter. Runner participants will also receive an event medal, energy drink and other goodies. Zombie participants will receive goodies as well as a zombie makeup transformation. The Red Cross will be providing disaster preparedness materials at the event fair.

Outrunning the zombie apocalypse is a great first step to being ready for other disasters. Finishing this 2.5 or 5k run through the zombie hoards will get you thinking about preparedness and survival, crucial for real-life emergencies like earthquakes and wildfires. If the zombie apocalypse doesn’t happen soon, participants will still get some valuable training for responding in a crisis!

The event is open to anyone who would like to participate as a Runner, Zombie, or Volunteer, as long as they are at least 12 years of age on the day of the event. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or bring a signed waiver available on the event website. Tickets are also available for Spectators who would like to attend and watch all the fun.
