The Arboretum District of California Garden Clubs, Inc., held their meeting of Monday, June 9, 2014 in the Palm Room of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, 301 N. Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia.  Morning refreshments were provided by The California Organic Garden Club, President Emily Wisneski. A most interesting program was presented by Richard Schulhof, CEO of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, who showed a video, while he spoke on the early days of the Arboretum and the many projects, plants, flowers and the Baldwin family, up to the current status of the grounds and the new addition of a turkey, who so far, is getting along rather well with the many peacocks.    The Arboretum District consists of 11 garden clubs and currently has over 800 members. Mary Betlach is the Director of the Arboretum District.  Meetings are held in the months of October, December, February, April and June.  There is no charge to attend a meeting and guests are always welcome.  For further information phone Director Mary Betlach at 818-790-4602.
The El Monte Senior President’s Council Club Durazo has announced a trip to Santa Barbara Mission, Hearst Castle and Solvang from Sunday, June 22nd thru Monday, June 23rd 2014.  For further information contact Viola Flores at 626-455-0813 or Andrew Adame at 626-956-6205. The Sierra Mar District of Business and Professional Women will hold their Annual Conference on June 28th at the El Monte Moose Lodge, 4249 N. Peck Road, El Monte.  Registration will begin at 9:30 am and the meeting will start at 10:00 am.  The meeting will be conducted by President Mary Jo Kolakoski.  Following the opening ceremonies and routine business, Club Presidents and District Chairs will report and a short program on parliamentary procedure ‘Staying in Tune with Robert’ will be given by Rosalyn Gray.  Luncheon will begin at Noon, followed by the Annual Dessert Auction. Auctioneer will be Esthela Siegrist.  The afternoon program, a film “Teenage Sex for Sale” produced by the San Bernardino District Attorney’s Office. The La Crescenta Womans’s Club held their last meeting of the club year on Wednesday, June 11th in their large, lovely clubhouse, 4004 La Crescenta Avenue. The meeting was called to order by President Carol Huntwork who welcomed members and guests and conducted the opening ceremonies and business of the Club. Installation of Officers for the 2014 – 2015 year were conducted by Mavis Hansen, San Gabriel Valley District President 2012-14.  Those installed as Officers for the coming year:  President: Carol Huntwork; First Vice President: Rita Even; Second Vice Presidents: Dawna Berger and Cindy Charles; Third Vice President: Carol Benedetti; Recording Secretary: Margaret Dickson;  Correspondence Secretary: Jeanne Long; Treasurer: Danette Erickson; Parliamentarian: Deanna Alfeld; Bulletin: Marianne Jennings;  Activities: Marilyn Wright; Philanthropy: Shirley Griffith; Public Relations: Margaret Baghdasarian and Gloria Lee; Program: Sandra Virag and House Chair: Daryl Baker-Pollock.  A delightful luncheon was enjoyed by all.  President Huntwork’s theme for the year is:  Friendship and Service to the Community.  La Crescenta Woman’s Club was organized in 1911, incorporated in 1924 and federated in 1924.  A member of the San Gabriel Valley District, California Federation and General Federation of Women’s Clubs. General meetings are held on the second Wednesdays, October thru June at 10:30 am.  The Junior Section meetings are held the first Monday, October through June at 7:00 pm.  Guests are always welcome.
