Construction Update  ….   The Alameda-Corridor Trench project continues to make progress throughout the City of San Gabriel. Currently, Del Mar Avenue will be closed through October 9th and alternate routes are available through Mission Road and San Gabriel Boulevard. Traffic is starting to take its toll on the patience of commuters and creative routes are being tested by locals who know the various ways around town. The larger construction has yet to take place but will certainly cause more headaches than have already been diagnosed. Through 2017, the project will continue unless of course Mother Nature takes over and does something crazy like unloading heavy rains in our area. My suggestion  — ‘always plan for the unexpected’….. Rosemead Happenings….. The City of Rosemead will host a Latino Festival on Saturday, October 5, starting at 10AM at Rosemead Park. Entertainment, food, games and booths will celebrate the Latino culture. Also, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church will host their annual fiesta on the 2nd weekend in October. Food, entertainment, games, rides and community booths will all be provided starting on Friday October 11 through Sunday October 13. Come on out and enjoy the fun in Rosemead during the month of October… Street Improvements….. Kudos to the City of Rosemead for paving Mission Drive from Rosemead Boulevard to Valley Boulevard. Unlike a neighboring city which doesn’t believe in paving their streets on a regular basis, Rosemead has done a pretty good job of maintaining their streets and filling in potholes. Savannah Cemetery also benefitted from Rosemead’s city maintenance plan by having a long-term loan and contract approved by the City to pave the Cemetery’s driveway…. Health Fair….. The San Gabriel Valley Medical Center will be hosting a health fair on Saturday October 19. The fair will allow local residents to learn more about services from the hospital, local healthcare providers, service organizations and much more. Seasonal flu vaccines and health screenings for adults ages 18 and up will be available while supplies last. Special activities for kids will also be included. The fair will run from 9AM to noon, call 626-570-6655 for more information…. New Restaurants…. In Rosemead, The Olive Garden, located at the Montebello Mall but on Rosemead city property, is expected to open soon. The Habit and Chipotle Restaurants opened within the past three months and are located in the Rosemead Square. TGIF Friday’s is also in the same retail center and has a pretty good sport bar with multiple TV’s to watch your Dodgers march through the playoffs….
