Enjoy these last days of February and look forward to March and all the fun that St. Patrick’s, the wearing of the green day, March 31, will bring. Easter will be early this year, being celebrated on Sunday, March 31.
What began as an observance of ‘National Random Acts of Kindness Week’ each February, has now become an annual day of recognition for many volunteers who are club members in the San Gabriel Valley District of Women’s Clubs. Each local club has the opportunity to submit one entrant to be recognized and honored as a “Kindness Angel of the Year” at the SGVD Annual Fashion Show. The criteria are minimal: Participant must have been a member for at least one year and performed a random act of kindness. Club activities are not considered.
On Saturday, February 23, 2013, fifteen women were recognized by their local club as a Kindness Angel of the Year and honored in a special ceremony. Those attending the presentation were: Edna White, Baldwin Park W.C.; Ina Ruan, Covina W.C.; Joan Tucker, Diamond Bar W.C.; Aja Enriquez, Duarte W. C.; Ruth VanKorlaar, Federated East Valley W.C.; Theresa Velasco, El Monte W.C.; Geri Kleinpell, Hacienda Heights W.C.; Vickie Guagliardo, La Crescenta W.C.; Lisa Castaneda, Montebello W.C.; Audrey Robinson, Monterey Park W.C.; Virginia
Lucero, Pio Pico W.C.; Sheila Pierce, Sierra Madre W.C.; Dee Chambers, Walnut Valley W.C.; Tani Rosas, West Covina W.C. and Sally Ehrheart, Woman’s Club of South Pasadena. The San Gabriel Valley District, GFWC California Federation of Women’s Clubs held their annual fashion show “Starlight Dreams” on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Radisson Ontario Airport Hotel, 2200 E. Holt Boulevard, Ontario, California. Fashions were presented by L and M Fashions and models were members of the District and the local clubs. The tables were beautifully decorated by Sally Benson, Reservations Betty Mackie, Ticket Sales Beverly Clifton, seating Mary Jo Kolakoski and Jane Myring. Many door prizes and opportunity prizes were awarded. One hundred and seventy five were in attendance. Fashion Show Chairman was Rosemary Morabito.
Congratulations to the El Monte Women’s Club on a most successful Scholarship Fundraising Dinner which was held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in the Grace Black Auditorium of the El Monte Community Center.
Keynote speaker was Sandy Neilson-Bell, winner of three Olympic Gold Medals in swimming in the 1972 Olympics. Musical entertainment was provided by the students of the El Monte High School Choir. Scholarship Chairman is Jane Myring.
