The El Monte Women’s Club will hold their monthly business meeting and luncheon on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in the small auditorium of the El Monte Community Center, 3130 N. Tyler Avenue, El Monte, California.  The business meeting will be called to order by President Lorene Gutierrez at 11:00 am.  Following the routine business and Chairmen Reports, a program on Domestic Violence will be presented by Kim Plater, GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs) San Gabriel Valley District Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Chairman  and Alice Slaughter, GFWC-SGVD Community Improvement Program Chairman. Ms. Plater and Ms. Slaughter have both had many  years of experience in the area of Domestic Violence, working closely with the WINGS shelter for women and children and the Covina Woman’s Club DVAC(Domestic Violence Action Coalition). Both women are retired police officers.  October is National “Domestic Violence and Awareness” month.  Everyone is asked to wear a purple ribbon, the symbol for Domestic Violence Awareness. Members are asked to bring items of toiletries or clothing which will be donated to a womans shelter. El Monte Women’s Club Domestic Violence and Awareness Chairman is Rita Cazares.  Anyone interested in this program is invited to attend.  There is no charge and reservations are not required.   Lunch will follow the program.  October Luncheon Hostess’ will be Alexandra Lopez and Elsie Neilson.

El Monte Women’s Club welcomes two new members.  Joanne Suriano and Traci Wallach will be initiated at the October 23rd meeting.  Joanne is sponsored by Frances Lara and Terri Oropeza. Traci is being sponsored  by Eva Stoltz and her mother, Patricia Wallach.   President Lorene Gutierrez will conduct the initiation.  Membership Chairman is Frances Lara.   “Kids Kloset” Chairman Eva Stoltz reports that donations  of clothing and childrens items for the Serenity Home will continue and reports a special need for boys clothes in sizes 2T, 4T and 5T are needed.    The GFWC-California Federation of Women’s Clubs held their  Area C  Conference on Saturday, October 13, 2012  in the Crystal Ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel, Torrance, California.  Women fom the El Monte Women’s Club attending the conference were Mavis Hansen, San Gabriel Valley District President; Mary Jo Kolakoski, SGVD Recording Secretary; Esthela Torres de Siegrist, SGVD Education Chairman;  Carmen Simons, SGVD Presidents Aide;  Lorene Gutierrez, El Monte Women’s Club President and Eva Stoltz, El Monte Women’s Club Recording Secretary.

El Monte Women’s Club fun fundraiser Bunco was held on Monday, October 8, 2012.  After sharing a delicious Baked Potato Lunch, the players shared lots of laughs and good fellowship.  Lorene Gutierrez won the $25.00 prize for most buncos. Guest Maria from the La Puente Woman’s Club won for most games and the booby prize went to Sharyon Nunez.  Traci Wallach won the 50/50.

The next San Gabriel Valley District meeting will be the Annual Fall Council to be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the City of Walnut Senior Center, 21215 La Puente Road, Walnut, California.  The focus will be on Habitat for Humanity, special philanthropy of GFWC-CFWC State President Valerie Barnes.  A federation auction (items donated by members) will be held and proceeds donated to  Habitat for Humanity.
