Santa Anita Family service has established three Caregiver Support Groups and a Kinship Support Group. The support groups are attended by others providing the same care that you provide. These groups allow participants an opportunity to share experiences, problems, solutions, feelings, "tips of the trade" so to speak, and whatever comes to mind. Our Caregiver Support Groups meet on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. There is a 10:00-11:30 AM group meeting at the Arcadia Senior Center, a 3:00-4:30 PM meeting at the La Fetra Senior Center in Glendora, and a 7:00-8:30 PM group meeting at Leven Oaks in Monrovia. The Kinship group meeting for older adults taking care of minor children meets at Santa Anita Family Service in Monrovia at 10:00-11:30 AM on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Calling all classic car owners and local crafters! Register to become a part of the Temple City Fall Festival and Classic Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 20, noon-4p.m., at Temple City Park, 9701 Las Tunas Dr. The event is expected to attract 2,500 festival-goers.

Classic Car Show pre-registration is strongly encouraged as space is limited. Pre-register by Oct. 16 to receive the early bird rate of $10 per vehicle. The Pasadena City College Learning Assistance Center recently partnered with Smarthinking, Inc. to launch freeonline tutoring services that students can access 24 hours a day.

This online service is intended to complement the college’s in-person, peer-tutoring programs. Students can immediately connect and interact with a live tutor, and schedule a personal session with a tutor of choice. Students can also submit a question and receive a reply from a tutor, or even submit a paper for review.

Online tutors are available for a wide range of subjects, including writing (for any subject), mathematics (basic math through calculus II), accounting, statistics, economics, biology, anatomy and physiology, physics, chemistry, and Spanish.

In addition, residents can drop-off used motor oil and oil filters for free at weekend

County-sponsored Household Hazardous Waste/Electronic Waste (HHW/E-Waste)

collection events or at local Certified Collection Centers. These centers will typically

accept up to five gallons of uncontaminated used motor oil, and some will also accept

used oil filters.

Residents are asked to prepare their items for drop-off by placing used oil filters in

sealed plastic bags and storing used motor oil in leak-proof containers without mixing

the oil with any other liquids.

Join the South El Monte Mayor and City Council for a fun bike ride event on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Bicyclists will meet at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall, 1415 Santa Anita Avenue and depart for an amusing scenic bike ride in South El Monte. This event is open to cyclists of all levels and ages. Participants are asked to bring their own bike and helmet, and to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Free light refreshments will be provided. The Mayor and City Council Bike Ride events are part of the City of South El Monte’s initiative to encourage biking activities, endorse bicycle safety, promote the health benefits of this great leisure activity and showcase South El Monte’s bike-friendly trails and areas.
